Truitt's Bad Option Still Dead

Submitted by D. Greer on Mon, 06/29/2009 - 2:29pm.

Falling on her sword, Vicki Truitt is calling it quits…for the time being. At the conclusion of the Legislative session three weeks ago State Rep. Vicki Truitt left Austin vowing to come back pushing for higher taxes in the form of increased gas taxes and vehicle fees.

With a special session called it looked as though Truitt was going to be afforded a chance to accomplish her mission.

But thanks in part to the narrow call of the session and the efforts of thousands of Texans speaking out against these taxes Truitt and her taxing peers are in a holding pattern.

Truitt told the Dallas Morning News that the “special session call is too narrow to reconsider it” and that, “its supporters need more time for grassroots organizing anyway.”

Grassroots killed this Legislation during the session and are keeping it dead during the special session.

Time For Truitt To Go!

Now if only Vicki Truitt would go away...

do we believe it

hope it really is dead, but will believe it when i DONT see it.

Train to nowhere

The train tax needs to stay dead. WTF was Truit thinking? Has she been enthralled by "Go Green-Go Commie" crowd?

Taxes and Spending

Any of those political dwarves who vote to increase taxes or create new taxes ought to be booted off the bell tower. What's the matter with them? Conservatives (real ones) want taxes decreased across the board and we've been yelling our guts out to make our views clear. Property owners do not want to be held hostage by "inclusive", too expensive public school systems any more. We want out. We want out of a lot that is unconstitutional and confiscative in this state and in this country.

I am just praying that enough Libertarian and Constitution Party candidates step up to the plate for the next elections, and that the mass of the voters somehow shake themselves out of their Obama-induced comas long enough to vote for freedom and constitutional rule.

Gas and the Economy

It should be no secret or come as a surprise that the oil companies have contrived alls sorts of ghosts and pretense to elevate oil and gas prices. A president or any member of government can and should be able to put legislation into being that would force Monopoly to bring gas prices to a level that would allow the 'working poor' breathing room. All comodities are tied to the price of gas and though it is claimed that there is little or no inflation I find the price of groceries have soared. Cut gas prices and hopefully other prices will come down. Submitted by Robert Marcott, Austin,Texas

By Raising Taxes?

I know that it has been said many times but I will reiterate Businesses do not remit taxes people do.

In the case of gas prices and other items -like your groceries- prices are going to increase when you have bad taxing policy flying out of our governing bodies.

Texans are fortunate that this measure failed during the session because cap and trade is going to cause gas to spike as it stands.

Higher Gas taxes? Truitt is out of touch with reality?

I am so sick of todays politicans that are completely out of touch with reality. They so not seem to take into consideration the amount of money we the people have to spend just to live on a daily basis. If they live in the US,they must know that everything we purchase each day to live from food to energy is taxed to the hilt. Now they want to tax us more. The dam is near bursting now and no real end in sight. They must all wake up and join the rest of us. Perhaps if they had to buy their on insurance, pay their own taxes, and save for their own retirement then Vicki and the rest would realize that we are sinking fast enough with out people like her trying to take our life jackets by taxing how we get to work, those of us that still have a job.

We are being attacked at all

We are being attacked at all levels of Federal, State, City and local government with daily bombardment of new taxes. They call it by many names, programs, fees, whatever it's taxes. Just today they announced that they were raising the price of the toll roads in Dallas by 30 percent. These people are out of their minds doing that in this economy yet this is happening every single day by different governmental agencies at every level. Each one of these agencies feels that they can impose their little tax on us. Let me me tell you people that money or the lack there of is freedom. The less money you have the less freedom you have to live the American dream and go and do what you want and have a decent life. If they can enslave us financially we are slaves, make no mistake and put all other issues aside, taxes in any form are going to kill the productivity and freedom of every American in this country far sooner than any other issue is going to destroy us. These people just don't get it. The Truits of the world all think that their cause is justified and their tax is justified. Well you add it all up and we are an enslaved people. I don't even know anyone that has a retirement fund because every penny we make goes to pay bills and insane government fees, and now there are movements to allow other countries to manage our toll roads and ports and allow them to collect taxes from us. People we have to get angry this has to stop.

Truitt Taxes

I accept the responsiblity of paying taxes. But it seems as if the greedy never get enough. There is always another "good intention" for taxpayers to foot the bill.

At some point there are not going to be enough taxpaying suckers or angry taxpayers.

I am happy Truitt has dreams for Texas future but do not kill the American Dream in the process.

Let's hope it stays dead!!!

Let's hope it stays dead!!! Native Texan

truth in advertising

Funny... She posts this on her website:

"It’s no accident that Texas is in far better financial shape than any other state in the nation — and — Texas #1 in the nation for business. Business is the backbone of our economy. Are you aware that of all the jobs created in the United States in 2008, Texas created more jobs than all the other 49 states, combined? This is because of the pro-business environment created by the business-friendly members of the Texas Legislature. The Texas Association of Business recently named me a “Fighter of Free Enterprise.” I am proud of my pro-business stance. It means jobs for Texans."

It would be nice if pols were held to "truth in advertising" laws!
