Lubbock Taxpayers to Roll Out Red Carpet for Visitors

The Lubbock City Council has just approved an engineering contract for a new $6.7 million visitors center in the city’s “Depot District.” Opponents had urged that the monies be used for streets, parks, or civic center renovations.

Supporters claimed visitors to Lubbock need a single location where they could learn more about its attractions. Perhaps the second Texas Riverwalk is in Lubbock and we and the many tourists that purportedly flock to the city just haven’t found out about it yet.

No offense to Lubbock – it has Texas Tech, critical regional medical facilities, low cost of living, and many other fine attributes, but it hasn’t been known as a tourist mecca and the question is whether these millions will change that.
