Capriglione Champions Transparency

Freshman State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione is making good on his promise to increase transparency in state government. His first two bills as a state legislator are focused on strengthening financial disclosure requirements and shining more light on taxpayer-funded pension systems.

Mr. Capriglione’s very first bill as a state representative, HB 524, requires state elected officials to disclose personal financial statements indicating whether they, their spouse, or their business have any contracts with a government entity.

HB 524 has bi-partisan support from Freshman Democratic State Rep. Mary Gonzalez, a joint-author of the bill.

As he told the Texas Tribune yesterday:

“It gets to the crux of the distrust between the public and elected officials: Where there’s a lack of transparency, they assume the worst. I want to see who doesn’t vote for this.”

So do taxpayers.
