J.D. Sheffield is flat out lying to voters

J.D. Sheffield, the most liberal Republican in the Texas House, is flat out lying to his constituents in House District 59.

Faced with actual conservative opposition, Sheffield is trying to whitewash his abhorred voting record by simply lying about it on his campaign website via a splash page that features a brief welcome note from Mr. Sheffield declaring he “worked to balance the budget, protect the 2nd Amendment, and stand up to Obama’s liberal policies.”

The only semi-truthful part about that statement might be that Sheffield voted for the budget that legislators are constitutionally required to pass. They have no other option but to pass a balanced budget, or they don’t get to go home. Period.

Simply voting for it is hardly “working.”

But what Sheffield conveniently fails to mention is that his vote for the budget was integral to the legislature increasing spending 26.9% from last session to this most recent session.

I repeat: a 26.9% increase in spending.

Oh, and that budget included a 12% pension increase for Sheffield and his legislative buddies. Something I’m sure he’ll fail to mention in his “conservative” campaign rhetoric.

But it get’s better.

Sheffield’s claim that he worked to protect the 2nd Amendment is ludicrous. He was the only Republican in the entire Texas House that opposed reducing the number of classroom hours required for Texans to obtain their Concealed Handgun License. What says “Pro 2nd Amendment” more than standing with Democrats to oppose commonsense reductions in gun-related regulations?

But here’s where he’s flat out lying:

Sheffield says he “stood up to Obama’s liberal policies” – except at every opportunity he had to stand with him.

Sheffield was the only Republican in the entire Texas House (noticing a pattern?) to stand up in the GOP House Caucus and openly push for expanding Medicaid as part of ObamaCare.

When the subject of expanding Medicaid came up for a vote on the House floor, Sheffield stood with Democrats every single time to support ObamaCare.

First he voted with Democrats to expand Medicaid via an amendment to the state budget. Then he opposed his own party’s attempts to ensure the Legislature, and not unelected bureaucrats, remained the decision-maker on Medicaid expansion. Then he voted for a liberal Democrat’s bill to codify ObamaCare navigators into state law – the same navigators caught committing fraud in the Metroplex by Project Veritas.

What part of that indicates he “stood up to Obama” to you?

Sadly, this just scratches the surface of lies J.D. Sheffield is telling his voters. You can learn more about his abject failure to vote like a Republican here, or at www.jdsheffield.org.
