Worst of 2017: State Rep. Sarah Davis
There is no Republican in the Texas Legislature more fundamentally opposed to conservative reforms than State Rep. Sarah Davis of West University Place.
Davis is well known as a liberal on social issues, opposing bills such as the Texas Privacy Act, religious liberty protections, and any regulation on abortion. Oftentimes she attempts to defend those positions by wrapping their defense in language about limited government and individual rights.
But Davis, ever the hypocrite, is equally a liberal on fiscal and role-of-government issues as well. In fact, she scores worse than some Democrats on the Fiscal Responsibility Index.
Davis’ worst moment this session was when the pro-abortion, “my body my choice” lawmaker tried to erode parental rights by amending a CPS reform bill to explicitly allow doctors to vaccinate children, even those in temporary custody, against their will and against the will of their parents.
Thankfully, Davis was stopped by conservative efforts led by State Reps. Jeff Leach (R–Plano) and Bill Zedler (R–Arlington). But that was just one of the many examples where Davis lived up to her reputation as one of the legislature’s biggest hypocrites and earned her status as one of the worst legislators.
