Local officials in Tarrant County are working to ram through TexRail, a $1 billion diesel rail project the government’s own data says won’t reduce air pollution or traffic congestion. Passenger rail is so unpopular, even Austin voters have repeatedly rejected its expansion.
In 2014, the Tarrant County Executive Committee passed a resolution specifically opposing TexRail, since building the new line will divert federal, state, and local tax dollars away from new roads.
Although several communities have opted out of train stations, others with fiscal, safety, and congestion concerns have been ignored. As cited in a recent op-ed by State Sen. Konni Burton (R-Colleyville), unlike other rail projects, voters were not able to voice their opinion.
