Abbott Offers To Pay For Nancy Pelosi Texas Campaign Visit

Gov. Greg Abbott is offering to fund an all-expenses-paid campaign trip to Texas for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi ahead of the November election.

In a tongue-in-cheek letter addressed to Chairman of the Texas Democratic Party Gilberto Hinojosa—from John Jackson, Abbott’s campaign manager—Abbott begins by noting that “The Texas Democrat Party has long looked to California for financial backing and as a model for the socialist policies it wants to implement here in the Lone Star State.”

Acknowledging that no Californian represents big government and high taxes better than Pelosi, the campaign then offers to fully fund airfare, hotel, and per diem expenses for the entirety of a Pelosi campaign visit to Texas.

The letter continues:

This would be a great opportunity for Texas voters to get a glimpse of what California-style policies would mean for our great state. Those policies include higher taxes, open borders, and a government that dictates every aspect of your life from your healthcare to what sort of straws you can drink from.

This would not be the first Texas visit this year for the California congresswoman. In August, Pelosi traveled to Texas to fundraise for Democrat congressional candidates.

During her visit, Pelosi lavished praise upon Congressman Beto O’Rourke, the Democrat challenger to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, for his “leadership” on immigration issues. O’Rourke has said he is “open” to abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and also voted against a resolution honoring ICE officers, being one of just seven Texas Democrats to oppose the measure.

As one of the least popular politicians in the country, Pelosi has become the motivating face of Republican campaigns ahead of the midterm elections. In a campaign rally in Houston on Monday, President Donald Trump warned attendees that a Democrat victory would mean a Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a sentiment that elicited wild boos from the audience.

In order to sweeten the deal, Abbott’s campaign has also offered to provide a list of Texas’ best barbecue restaurants “so that Leader Pelosi can have the full Texas experience as she campaigns across the state that continues to lead the nation in economic growth and job creation.”

There is no word yet as to whether Pelosi and the Texas Democrats have taken Abbott up on his offer.
